Ph.D. thesis: “Advanced microstructure for lithium-ion battery anodes”
Supervisor: Prof. Keith Stevenson
Individual doctoral committee members: Prof. Keith Stevenson, Prof. Artem Abakumov, Prof. Pavel Troshin
Sergei studied applied mathematics and physics at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, where he worked on chiral magnetic effect for his B.Sc. thesis. In 2013, he moved to Skoltech to study Materials Science. In his M.Sc. years, he worked on polymer electrospinning for Tion corporate group, Novosibirsk, and took Material Science classes at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Sergei researched mass-spectrometry data on solid—electrolyte interfaces in lithium-ion batteries for his M.Sc. thesis.
As a PhD student at Skoltech, Sergei is working on silicon and graphite anodes for lithium-ion batteries, doing electrochemical characterization and researching deposition processes for microstructuring and coatings to improve rate capacity and cycle life. He has also been a teaching assistant on Graphene-based materials and Electrochemistry courses.
Research interests: anode coatings, anode microstructure, microscopy methods, coating and deposition methods, nanoscale materials structure.
