Ph.D.  Organic chemistry, Lomonosov Moscow State University

Dr. Olga Shmatova received her Ph.D. from the Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2013 under the supervision of Prof. Valentine Nenajdenko. Her Ph.D. thesis’ covers different aspects of the chemistry of organofluorine compounds. In 2014–2019, Dr. Shmatova held postdoctoral appointments at the Department of Organic Chemistry at Lomonosov Moscow State University. During 2019–2021, Dr. Shmatova headed the project on the industrial synthesis of components for high-performance aerospace polymer composite materials for MC-21 at the Institute of New Carbon Materials and Technologies. Dr. Shmatova joined Skoltech in 2021 as a research scientist, and since 2023, he has held the position of Assistant Professor at CEST.

Olga Shmatova leads the electrolyte group at CEST. Our team specializes in the design and synthesis of new components for electrolytes for metal-ion batteries and the development of convenient production methods for well-known commercial electrolytes.

Keywords: electrolyte, fluoroorganics, lithium-ion batteries, lithium-metal batteries, sodium-ion batteries, sodium-metal batteries, Ni-rich cathodes.

Available projects for students:

  • Phosphorus-, sulfur-, and silicon-based electrolyte additives for lithium- and sodium-ion batteries
  • Synthesis and electrochemical testing of fluorinated solvents for metal-ion batteries
  • Design of new sulfone as solvents for high-voltage metal-ion batteries.

Current projects:

  • Fluorinated ethers and esters as electrolytes for high-voltage lithium-ion batteries.
  • Molecular design of new high-performance electrolyte solvents for lithium- and sodium-metal batteries
  • All-climate high-energy sodium-ion batteries.
  • Organic phosphates as electrolyte solvents for metal-ion batteries
