Ivan Sherstov

Associate Professor of the Practice, Head of laboratory for time and frequency research
Project Center for Applied Photonics and Quantum Technologies

Ivan has graduated from the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, High physical college of Russian Academy of Science in 2002 (diploma work in Frequency standards laboratory, P.N. Lebedev  Physical Institute of RAS), and received PhD (Dr. rer. nat) in physics in the Institute of Quantum Optics (IQO), Leibniz University of Hanover, Germany (Title of dissertation: Matter wave interferences of potassium molecules and the influence of collisions with potassium atoms in the ground state; published online in 2006).  His early research, including his postgraduate studies, was devoted to the optical ion frequency standards and conducted in the Leibniz University of Hanover and national metrology institute of the Federal Republic of Germany (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt; PTB). In 2011, he moved back to Moscow to work for the Skolkovo Foundation as an advisor and later joined Skoltech from the beginning as administrative responsible for practical research (Director for Research 2012-2016; Director for Industry Cooperation 2016-2017). In 2017 he has established Skoltech Laboratory for time and frequency research and initiated a consortia project on design and development of portable optical clock for space applications.
