Eric Achtmann

Dr Achtmann graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), majoring on Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1994 and two years later received his MBA in Finance from MIT Sloan School of Management.

Before joining Skoltech for the first time in 2016 as a Senior Advisor to the President, he has served as a Co-Founder and Executive Chairman at V-Nova International, a UK company specializing on productised & commercialized ground-breaking video/data   compression technology.

As a business builder and investor with more than 25 years of international executive, he has created, and grown rapidly, innovative businesses and products in corporate, turnaround and early-stage environments.  Dr Achtmann had various executive positions, including Practice Leader and Firm Expert on Aerospace and  Defence of  Boeing Phantom Works; Managing Partner of Polytechnos Venture-Partners (Germany); Co-Founder and Director for Reclimate Energy Capital (Switzerland); Head of Innovation and Director & Archtect “Project Marlow” of Costa Coffee (UK); Senior Advisor to McKinsey of McKinsey and Company, etc.

Dr. Achtmann has a successful record of rapidly assessing complex enterprise challenges, distilling clear and focused visions, aligning diverse interests, and building world-class, high-performance teams to monetize a vision and drive organizational success in record time. He has shown to be an adrenaline injection for organizations requiring technological innovation, strategic (re-) positioning and rapid growth. Among the most significant projects is “Project Marlow” for Costa Coffee, which was  proposed, architected and directed by Dr Achtmann as innovation initiative delivering  more than 25 million Dollars.

At Skoltech, Professor Achtmann is actively engaged in the educational and innovation activities in entrepreneurship and innovation, with a particular focus on the delivery of product development and business cases, and the further development of innovation content in students’ research projects.

Prof Achtmann’s expertise spans multiple industries and sectors, including automotive, aerospace & defense, telecoms and biotech. He is a passionate leader whose unique skillset lies in his ability to combine technological innovation and digitalization, strategy, and finance with operational leadership and execution
