Ayomikun Bello

Research areas include Chemical EOR, Gas EOR, Foam EOR, CO2 Storage, Nanoparticles, Surfactant characterization, and Carbonate mineralization. Specifically, working on the design and optimization of binary surfactant systems that can generate stable foams in depleted oil reservoirs for the combined purpose of EOR and CO2 sequestration.

Challenges with single surfactants:

  • instability of single surfactants in foam generation
  • high adsorption of surfactants on carbonate surfaces
  • incompatibility considering the harsh conditions of temperature, pressure, and salinity in reservoirs, especially carbonates

Prospects of binary surfactant systems:

  • low critical micelle concentration (CMC) values
  • ultra-low interfacial tension (IFT) values
  • beneficial synergistic interactions
